Our client, a reputable Corporate Service Provider, is looking to expand their Accounting team with the addition of a new Assistant Manager - Client Accounting.


Reporting to the Managers of the Client Accounting team, the Assistant Manager will be entrusted with a portfolio of clients to manage and build a lasting relationship with and entrusted to manage and mentor junior members within the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Participating actively in business development by onboarding new clients, explaining company processes, and assigning tasks based on team capabilities and workloads;
  • Managing client relationships, particularly in addressing and resolving client concerns efficiently. Participating in client meetings, both in relation to their own portfolio and when accompanying junior team members;
  • Supporting, mentoring, and guiding senior team members within the department, contributing to their professional development, and assisting with their performance and goal setting;
  • Leading a small portfolio of clients, taking ownership of all deliverables, and ensuring the highest standards of client service;
  • Actively participating in the recruitment process, including involvement in first-stage interviews and candidate selection;
  • Taking part in supporting staff retention and performance management initiatives, specifically bi-annual performance and salary reviews and promotion discussions in collaboration with management;
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of training sessions for the accounting team as part of ongoing staff development. Identifying training needs within both their own team and the wider department, working with management to deliver necessary training;
  • Reviewing staffing allocations and team workload balance on a quarterly basis and supporting management by providing feedback and recommendations;
  • Managing and mentoring more junior members within the team, including liaising with management and other senior colleagues during the review of their accounts;
  • Serving as a point of reference for the team and assisting in solving high-level technical accounting queries, as well as supervising and assisting team members with daily tasks;
  • Organising regular catch-up meetings with the team to monitor the progress of individual and team client portfolios and gathering feedback;
  • Completing management accounts related to the Assistant Manager’s own client portfolio, including managing annual audit processes and ensuring statutory deadlines are met;
  • Preparing and submitting VAT Returns for clients within their own portfolio;
  • Ensuring all tasks within assigned portfolios, including those managed by the team, are completed in accordance with statutory requirements and client deadlines;
  • Liaising closely with management regarding client accounting requirements, with a focus on maintaining and enhancing service quality;
  • Reviewing financial statements, including complex disclosures, and reviewing VAT Returns prepared by other team members;
  • Contributing to the compliance monitoring activities of the accountancy department;
  • Championing internal procedures and best practices within the team;
  • Assisting management in preparing articles on relevant accounting matters for publication on the company website;
  • Liaising with internal departments to obtain information and support documentation required for timely financial statement and statutory return preparation;
  • Reporting significant matters on general accounting issues to management promptly;
  • Assisting management in ensuring all team members meet statutory deadlines related to VAT Returns, Accounts, and Tax Returns;
  • Reporting to management regularly on portfolio performance, team matters, and other relevant departmental activities;
  • Carrying out other ancillary duties as may be required by management in line with the role.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in client accounting, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role;
  • Fully qualified by a recognised accountancy qualification;
  • Proven experience overseeing day-to-day operations within a finance/accounting team, including reviewing and authorising financial outputs;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word. Experience with SAGE and other accounting software is essential;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, with strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with clients and internal stakeholders;
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial data;
  • Ability to manage and support a team, providing coaching, performance feedback, and guidance as needed;
  • Confident in technical areas such as VAT, reconciliations, and financial reporting, with the ability to resolve queries and review complex client issues;
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines under pressure;
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented, with a continuous improvement mindset while being eager to learn and support in different sectors;
  • Willingness to take ownership of projects and contribute to process improvements and strategic initiatives;
  • Collaborative and approachable, with a positive attitude and an interest in mentoring junior staff;
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adaptable to change;
  • Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Schedule:
  • The business hours will be Mondays to Thursdays from 8am until 5pm and from 8am until 2pm on Fridays.
