Our client, a leading law firm in Malta, is currently looking to recruit a Senior Associate to join its Technology, Media & Telecoms (TMT), Competition, and Public Procurement team.


Responsibilities:
  • Advise on and draft complex telecoms infrastructure sharing and interconnection agreements, including reference offers and related regulatory documentation.
  • Represent clients in negotiations and proceedings with telecoms regulators and advise on legal and strategic approaches to mitigate regulatory risks.
  • Provide expert, prompt legal advice on EU telecom regulations, competition law, and data protection issues (ex ante and ex post).
  • Advise on and draft commercial contracts, terms & conditions, and other legal instruments for telecoms and technology companies, ensuring alignment with applicable legal frameworks.
  • Contribute to regulatory consultation processes by conducting legal research and preparing written submissions on telecom and competition law matters.
  • Advise on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and corporate structuring/restructuring exercises.
  • Support and lead legal due diligence exercises, particularly in technology and regulatory-driven transactions.
  • Lead and coordinate business development initiatives, manage existing client relationships, and support the team’s strategic growth.
  • Mentor junior lawyers, contribute to the firm’s traineeship programme, and support knowledge sharing through training, academic engagements, and publications.

Requirements:
  • Warranted lawyer with significant experience (typically 6+ years PQE) in TMT, competition law, and preferably public procurement.
  • Excellent command of English and Maltese, both spoken and written. Other languages are considered an asset.
  • Deep understanding of EU telecommunications law, with exposure to international regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong working knowledge of competition law, with the ability to advise on both national and cross-border matters.
  • Proficiency in legal drafting, research, and risk analysis.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong mentoring, people management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and handle complex, high-value client matters.
  • Commercially astute, detail-oriented, and solution-driven.
  • Confident leading strategic legal initiatives and contributing to practice development.
