Our client, operating within the public sector, is currently looking to recruit a Legal Officer – International Relations to join their team. Reporting to senior management, the selected candidate will be responsible for monitoring international and EU developments in AML/CFT, supporting international cooperation, and contributing to the organisation’s compliance with global regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring, analysing, and reporting on EU and international AML/CFT legislative and policy developments, and identifying implications for the organisation and Malta’s compliance framework.
  • Drafting, negotiating, and maintaining Memoranda of Understanding with foreign counterparts.
  • Coordinating bilateral and multilateral meetings with international counterparts to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices.
  • Preparing agendas, minutes, follow-up actions, and technical documentation for high-level meetings and international engagements.
  • Assisting in responding to queries, questionnaires, and information requests received by the organisation.
  • Supporting preparations for mutual evaluations, peer reviews, and technical assessments.
  • Representing the organisation in the international fora, working groups, and committees related to AML/CFT.
  • Assisting internal functions with the transposition and implementation of international and EU AML/CFT standards, including directives and regulations.
  • Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned by senior management.

Requirements:
  • MQF Level 6 qualification in International Relations, European Studies, Law, Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Finance, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and office automation tools.
  • Sound understanding of AML/CFT legislation in Malta, EU frameworks, and international standards.
  • Strong analytical, research, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.
  • Previous experience within a regulatory authority, government body, EU institution, or international policy environment will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant EU legislation and/or familiarity with sectors supervised by the organisation will be considered an asset.
