Our client, that operates within the public sector, is looking to strengthen its leadership team by appointing a Head of Supervision. This is a senior strategic position with oversight of the AML/CFT supervisory framework across Malta’s financial and non-financial sectors.
The successful candidate will play a key role in directing risk-based supervisory practices, managing cross-sector regulatory initiatives, and leading a high-performing team aligned with international AML/CFT standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Supervision Section.
  • Oversee the implementation of AML/CFT supervisory strategies aligned with EU and FATF standards.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and risk-based frameworks for effective supervision.
  • Mentor and manage a multi-disciplinary team to foster a performance-driven culture.
  • Analyse emerging ML/FT risks and propose strategic responses.
  • Optimise internal resources, team structures, and workflows for maximum operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with domestic regulators and other national/international authorities.
  • Advise the senior leadership, including the Director, Deputy Director, and Board of Governors.
  • Lead special projects, including research initiatives and policy development.
  • Represent the firm in international conferences, working groups, and mutual evaluations.

Requirements
  • MQF Level 6 (or higher) qualification in Law, Accounting, Finance, Audit, Economics, Insurance, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role within regulation, compliance, or supervision.
  • Deep understanding of AML/CFT laws and international standards, including FATF and EU directives.
  • Proven experience in managing teams, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills with a data-driven, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Maltese.
  • Strong project management and decision-making capabilities.
