Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the tax advisory and compliance team, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all deliverables.
- Set clear goals, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback and guidance to team members.
- Allocate tasks effectively based on team strengths and development needs.
- Oversee the preparation and review of personal and corporate tax returns and other statutory filings.
- Participate in provision of expert advice on tax planning strategies, risk management, and structuring opportunities.
- Interpret and apply changes in tax laws and regulations, ensuring the organization remains compliant and up to date.
- Design and deliver training programs to enhance team technical capabilities and professional growth.
- Support continuous learning through coaching, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing.
- Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and ethical conduct.
- Develop, implement, and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Review and update existing documentation to reflect best practices and regulatory changes.
- Ensure robust documentation of tax positions, processes, and key decisions.
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Finance, Legal, Corporate) and external advisors to address any tax issues and support business initiatives.
- Act as a subject matter expert to senior leadership on tax-related matters.
- Represent the company in dealings with tax authorities, auditors, and external consultants.
- Perform other duties as may be required from time to time.
- A University degree in Accounting, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Further specialisation in taxation (e.g., Master’s in Tax, ADIT, MIT) is considered an asset.
- Experience as a warranted accountant or solicitor specialising in taxation.
- Proven track record in client relationship management.
- Strong experience in direct and indirect tax work is highly valued.
- Sound knowledge of the Income Tax Act and the VAT Act (Malta).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and other accounting/tax software.
- Excellent presentation skills, capable of engaging international audiences.
