Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the drafting of legal positions, research papers, and national legislation, including the transposition and implementation of EU AML/CFT legislation.
- Provide legal counsel to the firms sections as required.
- Represent the Legal team in internal committees and external meetings, both locally and internationally.
- Draft and vet agreements to which the firm is a party.
- Represent the firm or Malta in international fora on AML/CFT matters.
- Support the firms international relations by drafting and negotiating Memoranda of Understanding, coordinating meetings, replying to questionnaires, and assisting with bilateral or multilateral cooperation.
- Liaise with government departments, agencies, authorities, and private entities on legal issues and support national cooperation efforts.
- Participate in AML/CFT outreach initiatives on behalf of the firm.
- Assist and represent the firm in legal proceedings.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned by senior management.
Requirements:
- LL.D. or M.Adv. degree (NQF7 or better) in Law, or equivalent. Candidates finalising their qualification by December 2025 may also be considered.
- Warrant or registration to practise as an advocate in Malta, or intention to obtain it within 12 months of employment.
- Admission to the Register of Legal Professionals and Law Firms (Cap. 12) within 12 months of employment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Maltese and English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and office automation tools.
- Sound understanding of AML/CFT laws, EU legislation, and international standards.
- Strong organisational skills, ability to work independently and within a team, and resilience under pressure.
- Pleasant personality, good moral character, and professional integrity.
- Desirable but not mandatory: experience in AML/CFT legislation, knowledge of related domestic and EU regulations, and familiarity with regulated sectors.
