Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to grow the Firm’s audit and assurance portfolio, including statutory audits, authority-related engagements, accounting manuals, accounting systems reviews, due diligence, limited business valuations, and investigative assignments.
- Plan, manage, and oversee the Firm’s audit business, ensuring effective resource allocation and timely delivery of client engagements.
- Review audit work performed within the Audit Division to ensure full compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and work-management support to audit staff across all levels.
- Assess audit staffing needs and make recommendations to the Partners regarding recruitment, training, development, and performance management, including initiating recruitment where necessary.
- Negotiate audit and assurance fees with new and existing clients.
- Act as the Firm’s Centre of Excellence for audit-related matters, maintaining up-to-date technical, regulatory, and professional knowledge.
- Perform concurring reviews of financial statements, particularly for listed entities and engagements involving qualified audit opinions.
- Liaise with the Director of Technology Advisory on audit-related technology resources, including IT audit requirements and staff/client system needs.
- Represent the Firm in the capacity of Audit Director, keeping Partners informed of market trends, competitive developments, and audit-related opportunities.
- Take overall responsibility for audit quality on assigned engagements, ensuring appropriate and compliant audit opinions are issued.
- Ensure full compliance with independence, ethical, and professional standards on all audit engagements.
- Provide strategic direction to the audit department in collaboration with Partners and firm leadership, supporting the implementation of the Firm’s strategy while maintaining high audit quality.
- Lead and maintain strong client relationships, delivering exceptional service without compromising audit integrity or professional standards.
- Promote a culture of culture of excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning within the audit function
- Monitor regulatory developments, industry trends, and emerging risks to ensure ongoing compliance and effective audit risk management.
Requirements:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Fully qualified member of a recognised professional accounting body (ACCA, ACA/CA, CPA, or equivalent).
- Holder of a Maltese Auditor’s Warrant / Practising Certificate.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in an external audit environment, with demonstrated progressive responsibility.
- Proven experience managing audit engagements from planning through completion and reporting.
- Strong experience supervising, mentoring, and reviewing the work of audit teams.
- Excellent analytical skills, sound professional judgement, and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements concurrently and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and client relationship management skills.
- Fluency in English is essential.
